Hi. My name is Squat (yes, that is my legal name; no, you may not see my ID), and this is the Squat Plays Games blog.
So I actually started this blog way back in my salad days of 2022, but due to various factors (lazy), I didn’t keep up with it in the way I now wish I would have (I am a very serious and stable individual, I promise), but I’m back now and here to tell you that I plan to try my best to hopefully put in some amount of effort to occasionally think about regularly posting here.
I know it’s written into the name, but I feel the need to tell you that this is a blog about video games. But also sometimes not about video games. But mostly about video games. Probably like 90% games. But maybe it will end up being 90% not about games; I don’t really know.
“So what the fuck is this stupid fucking blog about, dipshit? Don’t you know that blogs are supposed to be specific to certain niches, otherwise nobody will return to your stupid fucking blog, or care about any of the dumb shit you have to say, and they’ll post all over the internet about how that dumb dude with the stupid name just rambles on and on and on about absolutely fucking nothing and my God is he boring?” Is something you might say. And my response to that is–yeah, you’re right. But my interests are wide-ranging (though my thoughts are narrow), and I just can’t stay focused on one thing for very long, so there you go.
Ultimately, my main goal with this blog is to entertain–not to inform (though hopefully there will be some of that), not to offer my “hot takes” on whatever the current discourse is (though regretfully there will be a bit of that), and certainly not to argue with any of the querulous cum-stains who might find their way here (so keep your dumb fucking opinions to yourself, because I sincerely do not care).
Anyway, here are descriptions of the categories listed in the navigation menu, because of course I have to try to be clever, often to the point of incomprehensibility, with my naming (a running feature of all my writing), despite the fact that I am very much not clever:
Backlog Blog: reviews of/thoughts on games in my backlog.
Squat Reads: reviews of/thoughts on books, mostly books related to video games, but not always. Also the home of Magazine Memories.
Squat Watches: reviews of/thoughts on movies and TV shows, mostly works related to video games, but not always.
Squat Reports: news reactions, demo impressions, early access reviews
Creative Writing: creative writing pieces that relate to games in some way, yet I might also post some of my short fiction. My favorite category.
Features: posts that don’t fit into any of the other categories–hardware reviews, listicles (God, I hate that fucking word), stuff like that.
